Trichomonas gallinae is a single - celled protozoan that parasitizes in pigeons. It mainly attacks the digestive tract, oral cavity, crop, and larynx of pigeons.

In the oral cavity of pigeons, yellow cheese - like nodules can be seen after infection with Trichomonas gallinae. When Trichomonas multiplies in large numbers in the crop, it will cause inflammation of the crop mucosa, and pigeons will show symptoms such as loss of appetite and indigestion. Its main mode of transmission is through kissing between pigeons or drinking contaminated water.

This parasite has a high infection rate among pigeons, especially among young pigeons, and poses a great threat to the healthy growth and normal reproductive activities of pigeons.

Clinical Application:

· Rapid and Accurate Diagnosis of Infection:
The symptoms of pigeons infected with Trichomonas gallinae are sometimes similar to those of other pigeon diseases, such as candidiasis in pigeons. Nucleic acid detection reagents can accurately detect the nucleic acid of Trichomonas gallinae, and can determine the presence of the pathogen in the early stage of infection, achieving rapid diagnosis. This is very important for the timely detection of the disease, especially for intervention during the mild - symptom or asymptomatic parasite - carrying stage of pigeons.
For cases with atypical clinical symptoms, such as pigeons with only mild oral mucosal abnormalities or slightly disordered digestive functions, nucleic acid detection can provide a clear diagnostic basis to avoid misdiagnosis.

· Epidemic Monitoring and Prevention and Control:
In pigeon flocks, regular use of nucleic acid detection reagents can monitor the infection status of Trichomonas gallinae. Newly - introduced pigeons can be tested to prevent pigeons carrying the pathogen from outside from introducing the pathogen into the pigeon flock.
For large - scale pigeon farms, by sampling and testing pigeons in different areas of the pigeon coops, the epidemic trend of Trichomonas gallinae in the pigeon flock can be understood in a timely manner. Once the infection rate is found to be on the rise, prevention and control measures such as isolating sick pigeons and disinfecting pigeon coops can be taken in a timely manner to effectively control the spread of the epidemic.
