FIA analyzers work by injecting a small sample into a continuously flowing stream of carrier liquid. This sample then reacts with reagents within the system, creating a detectable signal. This signal, which can be a change in color, fluorescence, or other measurable property, is then measured by a detector.
Sample Injection: A small volume of the sample is injected into the flowing stream of carrier liquid.
Reagent Mixing: The injected sample mixes with reagents within the system, triggering a chemical reaction.
Signal Generation: The reaction produces a detectable signal, such as a change in color or fluorescence.
Signal Detection: A detector, such as a spectrophotometer or fluorometer, measures the intensity of the signal.
Data Analysis: The measured signal is then processed by the analyzer's software to determine the concentration of the analyte in the original sample.
