What is Ctsh test for?

Diagnosing Hypothyroidism: Hypothyroidism is a common endocrine disorder in dogs, characterized by an underactive thyroid gland that does not produce enough thyroid hormones. Measuring cTSH levels, often in conjunction with other thyroid function tests like total T4 (thyroxine) and free T4, helps veterinarians diagnose this condition.

Monitoring Treatment: For dogs already diagnosed with hypothyroidism and undergoing treatment (usually with synthetic thyroid hormone replacement), the cTSH test can help monitor the effectiveness of the treatment and make necessary adjustments to the medication dosage.

Screening: In some cases, the cTSH test may be used as part of a routine health screening, especially in breeds that are predisposed to thyroid issues or in dogs showing clinical signs suggestive of thyroid dysfunction, such as lethargy, weight gain, hair loss, and skin problems.
