Bovine Ephemeral Fever Virus (BEFV) Nucleic Acid Test Kit (Lyophilized)

This is a PCR nucleic acid detection reagent kit used to detect Bovine Ephemeral Fever Virus (BEFV). Real-time PCR technology has the characteristics of fast, sensitive, highly specific and high accuracy. Utilizing this technology and the FLASHTEST PCR reagent kit, it can accurately diagnose whether cows carry Bovine Ephemeral Fever Virus (BEFV).

Symptoms

  • Acute Onset: Cattle infected with BEFV usually have a sudden onset of high fever, with body temperatures often reaching 39.5 - 42°C (103.1 - 107.6°F). This is accompanied by shivering and general malaise.

  • Respiratory Symptoms: There is often severe respiratory distress, manifested as rapid and labored breathing, with an increased respiratory rate. Cattle may also cough and have a runny nose, with the nasal discharge starting as clear and possibly becoming mucopurulent later.

  • Lameness and Muscle Pain: Many infected cattle experience lameness due to muscle pain and joint stiffness. They may have difficulty walking, show reluctance to move, and exhibit weakness in the limbs.

  • Reduced Feed Intake: Due to the general discomfort and systemic effects of the virus, infected cattle usually have a significant reduction in appetite, leading to weight loss if the infection persists.

Clinical Applications

  • Early Detection and Outbreak Control: The BEFV nucleic acid detection reagent enables the early and accurate detection of the virus. During an outbreak, it can quickly identify infected animals, allowing for immediate isolation and implementation of control measures to prevent the further spread of the disease within the herd.

  • Differential Diagnosis: It helps distinguish BEFV from other bovine diseases that cause similar symptoms, such as foot - and - mouth disease, bovine viral diarrhea, or other respiratory infections. This accurate diagnosis is crucial for appropriate treatment and management strategies.

  • Herd Health Management: Regular screening of cattle herds using this reagent is essential for monitoring the health status of the herd. It can detect subclinical infections, enabling farmers and veterinarians to take proactive measures to protect the overall health of the herd and maintain productivity.

  • Vaccine Evaluation: After vaccination against BEFV, the reagent can be used to assess the efficacy of the vaccine. By detecting the presence of the virus in vaccinated animals, it is possible to determine if the vaccine is providing sufficient protection and make adjustments to the vaccination program if necessary.
