The Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus Mutation MS02 (FIPV - MS02) nucleic acid detection kit is designed to specifically identify the mutated FIPV - MS02 strain. It typically adopts real - time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. The kit contains primers and probes that are highly complementary to the unique nucleic acid sequences of FIPV - MS02. When a feline sample, such as blood, effusion, or tissue, is added to the reaction system, the nucleic acid in the sample is first extracted. Then, in the PCR process, the primers bind to the target FIPV - MS02 nucleic acid sequences, and through amplification, the amount of the target nucleic acid is exponentially increased. The probes, which are labeled with fluorescent dyes, can hybridize with the amplified products, generating a fluorescent signal that can be detected and quantified.

2. Clinical Applications

  • Early and Accurate Diagnosis: In cats showing symptoms like lethargy, weight loss, fever, and abdominal effusion, which are common in FIPV - related diseases, this kit can quickly and accurately determine if the infection is caused by the FIPV - MS02 strain. Early diagnosis is crucial as it allows for the initiation of appropriate treatment strategies, although FIP treatment remains challenging.

  • Epidemiological Surveillance: In catteries, shelters, or veterinary clinics with a high volume of feline patients, the kit can be used for epidemiological surveillance. By regularly testing cats, veterinarians can monitor the prevalence and spread of the FIPV - MS02 strain, which helps in implementing preventive measures such as improving hygiene, quarantine of infected cats, and better management of the feline population to reduce the risk of further spread.
